MSN messenger or more commonly known as Windows Live Messenger is an instant messanger client designed and developed by Microsoft. MSN messenger is designed to work with Windows Xp, Windows Vista, Window Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, it can also work on Windows Mobile. Windows Live Messenger has been part of Microsoft's Windows Live set of online services since 2005. The client was first released on MSN messenger on 22nd July 1999, and as Windows Live Messenger on 13th December 2005. The final version used at the present time is Windows Live Messenger 8.5. It was released on 6th November 2007. Windows Live Messenger 2009 is currently in production.

Apart from the basic functions MSN messenger offers a number of amazing features such as PC to Phone calls, file sharing, Games, Xbox integration, offline messages and any more. With offline message feature one can send messages to one or more contacts that are offline, they will receive the message as soon as they come online. A person can also start conversations with their contacts even when his or her status is set to Appear Offline. In addition to PC to PC calls that have been supported in previous versions of MSN messenger, Window Live Messenger now supports PC to Phone calls. With the help of MSN messengers file sharing option a use can send any type of file such as picture, word document, audio clip or video clip. The Sharing Folder feature unique to Windows Live Messenger is an alternative to the direct transfer method. In order to minimize risk of virus infected transfers the sharing folder is bundled with an anti virus program.
